ABOUT RUBBER ARMSTRONG

Who We Are

A weird and wonderful family of like-minded individuals, supporting each other on journeys of wonder since 2015.

Our Story

Since 2015, Rubber Armstrong has been a fixture at Burning Man, evolving year after year into a sustainable, participatory community that values contribution, creativity, and connection above all else.

Our Values

Family

We support each other, we are not a burden, we respect each other and work together to co-exist harmoniously. This is not rhetoric - it's how we operate, day to day, shift to shift.

Consent

Consent means asking first and respecting the answer; every time, no exceptions. A "maybe" is a "no," and silence isn't a "yes." This applies to everything from borrowing a bike to occupying shared space.

Respect

Respect means treating people, art, and space like they matter; because they do. Leave no trace, take no liberty, and honour the effort behind every creation and every connection.

Community

Our family of like-minded individuals cannot be run by a couple of people. A community like this requires everyone to play their own part in the success of the camp. We are measured as a collective.

Sustainability & Infrastructure

Sustainability isn't a buzzword for us - it's engineered into every system we build.

Solar Power

Our off-grid solar systems power the entire camp, from tent AC units to the SS Mezcal art car. We run on sunshine, good vibes, and mutual care.

Water Management

5,000L of filtered drinking water arrives topped to the brim - more than enough to cover burner guidelines with contingency. Daily disciplined showers with eco-friendly soap. Water is the driving force of all nature.

Leave No Trace

We provide a comprehensive recycling system. Everything we consume as a camp is taken out with us and recycled. MOOP sweeps are constant. As a camp, we make a conscious effort to clean up, not just after ourselves but everyone around us.

"Every member follows the ethos Leave No Trace, which is one of 10 Principles of Burning Man. Don't be offended by reminders - be informed."

Infrastructure That Works

Spacious, insulated tents with triple-layered thermal material and 120V power. Aluminium shade cloth that blocks UV while allowing hot air to escape. Playa-proven designs refined over years of iteration.

How We Operate

Participation, Not Passivity

We, as burners, are not individually critiqued but rather as a whole. Together we can improve our participation in Black Rock City, justify our placement, and honour those who have tirelessly worked before us to make our nine days of madness an achievable and desirable goal, year after year.

Everyone's small but meaningful contributions achieve our combined success.

No Passengers

Whether it be helping a fellow camp member clean the solar panels, providing excellent banter on your bar shift, or cooking up a storm with a smile - everyone contributes in their own way. This is not a turn-key camp. This is not a hotel. This is a working camp where participation makes the magic happen.

Community First

Burning Man is a city of once-strangers who become family. Every gift you share makes our camp burn a little brighter. We're not here to consume an experience; we're here to create one together.

Sound Like Your Kind of People?

If these values resonate with you, if this approach to Burning Man aligns with your own, we'd love to hear from you. Start with a Statement of Intent - tell us who you are and why Rubber Armstrong speaks to you.

"Rubber Armstrong is a volunteer family made up of people we're lucky enough to call friends. Without your amazing presence, Rubber Armstrong simply wouldn't be a family."
